I decided to run a marathon

It’s not surprising really. I think every runner toys with the idea at some point. I just didn’t think I would decide to do it so soon. But I’ve decided to put a definite date on my goal: May 6, 2018 – the BMO Vancouver Marathon.

I haven’t chosen a training plan yet since it’s still really far away, but I’m happy to have a really long runway to build myself back up since I’m coming back from an injury. I’m currently training for a 10k in September and a half marathon in November. After that, I plan to maintain my base for about a month or so before I start marathon training in January. If it wasn’t already clear, this will be my first marathon.

I had been tossing the idea around over the last couple of days. I made a list of running goals because I’m starting to feel stronger and like my injury is nearly gone, and I’m finally feeling psyched about running again! On that list were several distances with time goals, and at the bottom was “run and finish a marathon”. I added an Instagram Story of my coffee next to my list, and an internet friend of mine replied saying we should train together since she was considering the BMO Vancouver Marathon next year. That was enough for me. I was dead set on it.

Stick around if you want to read about my training. Usually, I’m talking to myself as I work through my strategy, but it will be nice to have someone to talk to on this long journey.

Until next time, finish your coffee and go run!
